At birth babies sense of touch is the most developed in his or her mouth. Babies are better able to feel with their mouth than with their hands or fingers. This sensitivity to touch in the face region continues beyond age 5.
Shake rattle in front of baby so she engages with it visually and through sense of hearing. Repeat until baby is engaged well with the rattle then hand the rattle to baby. Watch to see if she tries to repeat your movements with the rattle.
