I have tried so many chocolate chip cookies recipes, but nothing beats the cookie recipe on the back of the Hershey’s chocolate chip packet. They are soft and cakelike in the middle and crunchy around the edges. The little hint of salt offsets the sweetness. These are always a hit with the kids!

I’ll be baking these for the kids’ teachers as I think that there is nothing nicer than getting a home made cookie, especially when these things are hard to come by in HK.
Cookie hints
Keep a few handfuls of chocolate chips aside and before baking poke a few into the dough balls. This is because during the rolling process, the chips often get lost inside the dough.
Don't forget to leave room for the cookies to spread while baking and let them cool completely before moving them to a cooling rack, this gives them a crunchy bottom. Everybody likes a crunchy bottom.
To Christmas them up a bit I have dipped the raw balls of cookie dough into various sprinkles (jimmies if you are from the US), funfetti and gold pearls. There are so many combinations to choose from.
You may also like to half dip the baked and cooled cookies in white or milk chocolate, apart form tasting slightly illegal, you can further add Christmas cheer by sprinkling with festive coloured cake decorations. You can zap chocolate melts in a microwave safe bowl in the microwave at 20 second intervals and stir gently until melted. I like working with white chocolate more in general because it is less temperamental.
I use the semi-sweet chocolate chips and if I’m baking for adults I add some roughly chopped unsalted macadamias.
These cookies keep best in an air-tight container.
Enjoy,
